2024 SEASON – 17 YEARS OF PSC
In 2024 we celebrate the 17th year of Prague Shakespeare Company. Through the years we have reached tens of thousands of people – inspiring and entertaining audiences and students with our productions and educational activities in Prague and the Czech Republic and through multiple tours across Europe, the United States, India, Egypt and Qatar.
2024 is poised to be our most exciting year yet – but without your financial support nothing is possible.
We are the proud recipients of an EU Creative Europe Grant supporting a ground-breaking and historical theatre collaboration between PSC, the bremer shakespeare company in Bremen, Germany and The Odesa Academic Ukrainian Theater named after Vasyl Vasylko in Odesa, Ukraine to create a unique theatrical experience: the WE ARE HAMLET Project’s production of Shakespeare’s timeless classic: HAMLET. It is a testament to our long-standing history of excellence that PSC was selected for opportunity to unite theatres and countries through Shakespeare. We premiered the show in Bremen, Germany on 2 May to rave reviews and we can’t wait to share this production with you and hope you can attend one of the upcoming performances at the Estates Theatre or Prague Castle in Prague this summer! Click here to discover more about the project and WHY HAMLET!
But that’s not all! PSC’s 2024 Season is still in high gear! In May we premiered a fabulous new production of MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, directed by internationally renowned director Brendon Fox.
This June, PSC returns to the Czech National Estates Theatre (where Mozart premiered Don Giovanni in 1787 and where we have produced twenty-six other performances) to present a very special and unique two-day festival of Shakespeare performances:
- We Are Hamlet Project: HAMLET featuring our multi-national company of artists from the Czech Republic, Germany, Ukraine, Malaysia, the UK and the United States in our ground-breaking collaboration. Performed in English, German, Czech, Ukrainian and Chinese.
- SHAKESPEARE AND THE ALCHEMY OF GENDER – Lisa Wolpe’s colossal international hit solo show that has played to glowing reviews all over the world. This performance is Lisa Wolpe’s deeply personal and moving story of connecting to her family’s history and Jewish roots while discovering and creating her own future as one of the world’s most well-regarded Shakespearean artists.
- ROMEO AND JULIET: WHAT’S IN A NAME – a bi-lingual English and Arabic performance that will provide a fresh take on Romeo and Juliet, focusing on amplifying and uplifting the voices of the female characters in the play. The show is performed by an all-Middle Eastern company of women and one man. This is a special project PSC has been developing for the last year and we are delighted to have this positive representation of Arab female voices on the stage.
- THE TWO NOBLE KINSMEN – A stunningly Queer tragicomedy, featuring base noblemen, misguided monarchs, and hateful lovers. A captured Amazon virgin who longs to be left alone is set up as a prize for prideful warriors – who will stop at nothing to win the day. This one-hour adaptation from a play written by Shakespeare and Fletcher, taken from Chaucer’s “Canterbury Tales” is conceived and directed by Lisa Wolpe starring Scott Jackson, Carolyn Johnson, Kymberly Mellen, Owen Lindsay alongside participants in our 2024 Summer Shakespeare Intensive.
SUMMER SHAKESPEARE INTENSIVE

TWO INCREDIBLE PREMIERES – FALL 2024
Looking ahead to the fall, I am delighted to announce two AMAZING new premieres that will electrify, entertain and enlighten audiences in Prague, Czech Republic and Cincinnati, Ohio in the US! In Prague, we will premiere a new production of THE MERCHANT OF VENICE starring the incredible Jewish actor and PSC Associate Artist Irwin Appel as Shylock leading a company of other PSC Associate Artists and favorites. This will be the first major production of the play in PSC’s history and it could not come at a timelier moment. And in yet again another ground-breaking collaboration, PSC will partner with the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company on new joint venture of TWELFTH NIGHT directed by CSC Artistic Director Brian Phillips and starring leading actors from both companies including PSC Associate Artists Elissa Levitt, Karel Hermanek and Taylor Napier! This production will premiere in Cincinnati in November and then premiere in Prague in early 2025.
ONGOING SUPPORT FOR UKRAINE
As you may remember, over two years ago PSC responded to the war in Ukraine by opening our doors to Ukrainian artist refugees and proudly sponsored the creation of a new Ukrainian Theatre company – Ukraine Yellow and Blue as well as many Ukrainian theatre artists – providing much needed employment, community, training and an artistic home for these terrifically talented individuals as they struggle to create a new life in Prague. This effort alone represented a financial commitment by PSC of over $60,000 in production and financial support to our new Ukrainian friends over the last two and half years. We are so happy that our special HAMLET co-production will also tour to Ukraine in early fall of 2024. After supporting Ukrainians in Prague, we are honored to share this work with our theatre colleagues and audiences in Ukraine – letting them know the world has not forgotten about Ukraine.
