2023 Spring/Summer Season Auditions
The Prague Shakespeare Company (www.pragueshakespeare.org) will be holding open call auditions for the 2023 PSC Spring/Summer season from 10am-2pm (10:00-14:00) on Thursday 2 March, 2021 at Divadlo na Pradle located at Besední 487, 118 00 Malá Strana, Prague 1, Czech Republic.
The productions/roles we will be casting for are listed below:
Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, directed by Guy Roberts
Major Summer, Full Production & One-hour, 5 actor educational version – Dates TBA
We will be seeing actors for all roles in Romeo and Juliet for a major summer production at a major venue TBA and also replacement actors for our one-hour educational tour version. All types considered. All actors auditioning for Romeo or Juliet must present a speech of their choice from the play for a role of their choice. Mercutio has been cast. All other roles open.
Plot Twist by Jerome Dobson, directed by Lane Davies
Divadlo Na Pradle – 7, 8, 13, 14, 15 April
World Premiere of a new comedy set in the TV soap opera world. We are only casting the role of:
ANGEL SANTEE. (LEAD FEMALE ROLE). Executive producer of TV’s most successful soap. 30s. High energy, used to getting what she wants. Ideal candidate is a female under 40 with Central American, South American, Mexican or Spanish heritage. To audition for ANGEL, please present one modern monologue of your choice and also the monologue below:
“Wow. You are now the head writer of the worst show on all of TV. You don’t even have a beer to celebrate. I looked. But Henry, how is it you can write stuff like you just did and be so . . ? So . . ? Anyway, my Ivory Soap controls 90% of your show’s ad minutes. So, boy, do I need you to keep the show on the air. And for Bob, too. The thing is, his wife died a few years ago. So . . . So you saw how much this show still means to him. Even more now. God. So, Henry, head writer now, how about a rebound story? Love lost, love found. Henry it’s alright to look me over. Everybody else does. What is it about you? Hmm, I think you’re going to find me hanging around a bit. Maybe a lot. Yes. So, Henry, watch out.”
In addition to Actors we are also seeking assistant directors, stage managers, crew and production assistants. Interested applicants are encouraged to come to the Open Call for an interview. Individuals not able to attend the open call may submit a link to a video self-tape audition of a Shakespeare monologue, no later than Wednesday 1 March COB to info@pragueshakespeare.org
The productions will be performed in English. All actors are asked to perform one Shakespeare or modern monologue in English, no more than 2 minutes long. Please note, we are only considering Prague based-actors who may legally work in the Czech Republic for this production. All fees and salaries negotiated individually based on the scope of work, length of service with PSC and professional experience. English language proficiency, classical theatre experience and training essential.
Minorities and unique types especially encouraged to apply. Our casting seeks to be as inclusive as possible and we invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender, and non-binary actors to audition. We are also seeking all races and ethnicities and actors with disabilities as well as able-bodied actors for all roles. At the audition, please let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or if there are any accommodations we can provide.
Almost all rehearsals will exclusively take place during the daytime during the week and on weekends. Priority in casting will go to individuals who do not have any conflicts rehearsing 10am-4pm Monday through Friday.
All actors, directors, designers, musicians and stage managers who work with PSC are members of the PSC seasonal artistic company. The seasonal artistic company, under the guidance of the Artistic Director, work constantly together to explore a cohesive classical style. PSC provides an ensemble atmosphere for extended theatrical exploration wherein company members work as a group to develop skills and to perfect their craft through the continuity of several productions and ongoing training workshops. The quality of commitment demanded of the company members fosters a cohesiveness and intensity of approach to PSC’s classical repertoire.

Stage Managers for 2023 Season
Ideal candidates should have experience in stage management or extensive experience with backstage and/or production assistant work. Specific duties will vary by experience and production needs but may include the following:

- Running rehearsals (scheduling breaks, keeping order, supporting the director and cast, etc.)
- Taking blocking notes
- Taking production notes
- Coordinating production elements
- Loading in and Striking production
- Deck management (organizing props, backstage traffic, giving actor calls, crisis management, etc.)
- Light board operation
- Sound board operation
- Other duties as required by Director, Artistic Director, and Production Stage Manager

Pay dependent on individual’s experience and assigned projects. Prague-based candidates preferred.
